2026 OUT-OF-ZONE ENROLMENTS
Enrolment at Waiheke Primary School is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available here.
The Board has determined that 10 places are likely to be available for out-of-zone students next year for Year 0/1 students only. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
Next year there will be two enrolment periods. The first enrolment period runs for the first two terms of 2026 (2 February - 26 June 2026).
For students seeking enrolment within the first enrolment period, the deadline for receipt of applications for out-of-zone places is Wednesday 8 October 2025.
Parents of students who live within the home zone and intend enrolling their child at any time during the next year should notify the school by Wednesday 8 October 2025 to assist the school to plan appropriately for next year.
Application information is available on the school website: https://www.waiheke.school.nz/enrol/domestic-students
If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students will be selected by ballot. If a ballot for out-of-zone places is required, it will be held on Wednesday 15 October 2025. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
Details relating to the second enrolment period for terms 3 and 4 will be announced during term 2.

At Waiheke Primary School we are dedicated to providing a quality education for each child. We believe that the education of your child involves three main participants:
the family
the school
the child
All participants need to contribute to the overall programme for the benefit of that child. If you are interested in enrolling your child/ren at our school, you are more than welcome to meet with the principal and have a tour of the school - please contact the office to arrange a suitable time office@waiheke.school.nz
Waiheke Primary School operates under a ruling from the Environment Court, which sets a roll limit on our site at this stage. Therefore we have an enrolment scheme in place with a home zone.
All students who live within the home zone are entitled to enrol at the school.
Please contact the school as soon as possible before your child starts at Waiheke Primary School. A special interview time will be scheduled with the Principal or Deputy Principal. This enables us to structure classes with balanced numbers across the school and allows the opportunity for your child to be transitioned into the school thoughtfully.
We are now a Cohort Entry School. From 2026 tamariki will begin school on set dates across the year, rather than individually on or after their fifth birthday. Children starting in Year 0/1 are to begin only on one of the eight dates set nationally by the Minister of Education:
Term 1: 2 February or 9 March
Term 2: 20 April or 2 June
Term 3: 20 July or 24 August
Term 4: 12 October or 16 November
Each year the Board of Trustees determines the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The Board publishes this information by notice in the school newsletter and on the website, and in local social media.
