Sustainability and Caring for the EnvironmentSustainable Development has been defined as: “Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” Waiheke Primary School is committed to integrating environmental, social, and economic factors in our decision making processes and business strategies. To this end, we are commited to: - Effectively communicating with our students, their parents and the school community and request that they join us in our environmental programmes.
- Achieve a lessened impact on the environment by efficiency, re-use, recycling, and conservation of natural resources.
- Enhance the school curriculum to include environmental,
conservation and social issues within the core curriculum. - Evaluate our environmental performance to ensure continual
improvement through measurement, inspections and audits. - Work in partnership with others inside and outside the school
to promote the practices of sustainability in schools.
The following core values will guide the school in its journey towards sustainability: - Support social equity, participation and respect for cultural diversity.
- Belief that the economy is closely linked to the environmental
and social concerns. - Recognition of our environmental responsibility to preserve
natural resources, prevent pollution and continually improve environmental management.
